Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been missing in action, as they say. I know many of you are eagerly awaiting the next installment of my series on dieting, or for my next tutorial. The truth is, I have been swamped with work. Why, might you ask? Well, let me explain why I’ve been M.I.A.
The Dress!
Oh my gosh, I have been working nonstop on this dress since I got back from Palm Desert. I mean, I did manage to make a video of our trip to Palm Desert, which you can watch right here! But other than that, 100% of my free time has been taken up rhinestoning this dress. And honestly, that’s not going to end soon. After this dress is done, I have another dress, plus Simeon’s Latin shirt, to follow.
Just to put it in perspective, this Latin dress has taken me about 30 hours to rhinestone. The Standard dress, I imagine, will be about the same. And Simeon’s shirt will most likely take me about 15 hours. That’s more than 70 hours of work I need to squeeze in somewhere between teaching a completely full schedule, practicing 3 hours a day, organizing the studio for our area’s biggest competition (coming up this Friday), sending in entries for the next four competitions (all entries are due this week), and… sleep.
Studio Work
Studio work has been crazy. I mentioned the four competitions whose entries are all due the same week. It does not make it easy on us. Plus, that local competition that starts this Friday.
Local competitions always require more organization than the away ones. With many students dancing, we have to help them all find costumes and arrange hair and makeup options. Spectators want tickets. And most importantly, we have to make sure there is always someone in the ballroom to be there for support and guidance.
We have youth students who are doing their tests to move up levels. That is happening next week, which means getting them ready, conversing with the parents, and organizing the tester.
At the end of August, the studio has special events we are organizing. Those are only a few weeks away. Plus, one of our long time teachers st the studio is leaving, so we are also organizing a going away party for her.
Training
Our training has been tough this summer. We have been really consistent with our practice schedule and we feel like we’ve gotten a lot done. But we are traveling down and back to LA every week in August, so we’re generally preparing ourselves for that, too.
Get Why I’ve Been M.I.A.?
I hope this gives a good explanation as to why I’ve been missing in action. Hopefully once I get the dresses done, I’ll be able to get to work once again on some useful info! So bear with me, guys! I won’t be M.I.A. for long, I promise!
